Game Plan

Abzan Aggro wins by establishing an insurmountable board position in the first two turns and converting that lead before the opponent can stabilize. The opening is simple and brutal: land a Carnophage, Savannah Lions, or Sarcomancy on turn one, follow with a Skyshroud Elite or River Boa on turn two, and staple a Rancor onto the most threatening attacker. Duress clears the path by stripping countermagic or sweepers before they resolve, so the creature suite attacks without interruption. Wax // Wane does double duty: the Wax half pumps a trampler through a chump-blocker while the Wane half peels off an opposing low-cost enchantment or artifact, keeping the pressure axis clean. The deck targets turns four or five, with Rancor's trample converting even a single unblocked two-power creature into a decisive clock.

When the opponent survives the initial wave, the deck shifts to a grinding second gear rather than sputtering out. Carnophage and Sarcomancy's life-payment drawback is a feature: it pressures the pilot to close the game, which is exactly the discipline the strategy demands. Call of the Herd supplies a recursive threat that demands two removal spells over two turns, and River Boa regenerates past targeted removal and dodges blue blockers entirely. Cursed Scroll converts surplus land draws into a repeatable damage source that opponents cannot outrace with life gain alone. Vindicate handles any permanent an opponent deploys to break parity, whether a stranded land, a problematic enchantment, or a large blocker, extending the deck's reach well beyond its one-drop suite.
