Overview

"Iggy Pop is a black Storm combo deck built around the Ill-Gotten Gains loop: cast Ill-Gotten Gains to return itself and mana pieces to hand, then rebuild with Dark Ritual, Cabal Ritual, Lotus Petal, and Lion's Eye Diamond to inflate the storm count before a lethal Brain Freeze mills the opponent out. Intuition assembles the exact pieces while Opt, Sleight of Hand, and Deep Analysis dig toward the combo. Recoup flashes the loop back from the graveyard, and Cunning Wish fetches an answer or alternate kill, making the chain resilient and reliably deterministic."

Game Plan

Use fast mana (Dark Ritual, Lion's Eye Diamond) and tutors (Intuition, Merchant Scroll) to setup an Ill-Gotten Gains loop. Recursively cast spells to build Storm, then finish the opponent with a massive Brain Freeze or a Cunning Wish for a sideboard threat.

Graveyard dependency: the entire Ill — Gotten Gains loop needs a populated graveyard to recur its resources, so a single instant-speed graveyard-exile effect breaks the recursion and leaves the deck with no way to regenerate its hand.
Zero interaction / glass cannon. It plays almost no creatures, removal, or disruption, so it folds to any pressure it cannot outrace; a fast threat forces it into a race it is not built to win.
Self — destructive resource management: both Lion's Eye Diamond and Ill-Gotten Gains dump or return the entire hand, so a single well-timed disruption can leave the pilot empty-handed with no fast mana to restart and no fallback plan.
Tutor dependency for consistency. The deck leans on Intuition and similar tutors to assemble its pieces, and without a tutor resolving cleanly the combo becomes inconsistent with no threat — dense plan B to fall back on.

How to win with it

Mulligan any hand that cannot start building Storm on turn one: a keeper needs at least two of Dark Ritual, Lotus Petal, Lion's Eye Diamond, and Cabal Ritual working together, plus either a cantrip (Opt, Sleight of Hand, or Flash of Insight) or Intuition to dig toward the missing piece. A hand that is all fast mana with no Intuition and no cantrip cannot find Ill-Gotten Gains and should go back.
The dream draw kills on turn one or two: lead with Dark Ritual, chain additional Dark Rituals and Lotus Petals, resolve Intuition naming Ill-Gotten Gains plus two cheap spells, then cast Ill-Gotten Gains to rebuild your hand and recast the same ritual package to inflate Storm before firing Brain Freeze for lethal. Crack Lion's Eye Diamond mid-chain to convert your spent hand into the black mana that keeps the count climbing.
Treat Ill-Gotten Gains as a loop engine, not a one-shot: before casting it, decide exactly which three cards you will return to hand (it returns up to three from each graveyard) and confirm those cards make enough mana to recast Ill-Gotten Gains again. If the returned package cannot fund the next Ill-Gotten Gains, you only get a single tempo cycle, so hold it until your graveyard mana can loop at least twice.
Sequence Lion's Eye Diamond around your tutors and recursion: with Intuition on the stack, crack Lion's Eye Diamond for mana before Intuition finishes resolving so you empty your hand for value yet still receive the card Intuition delivers (the other two cards land in your graveyard for Ill-Gotten Gains). Likewise, crack Lion's Eye Diamond to pay for a Recoup flashback, since Recoup's target is already in the graveyard and is not lost when you discard.
When the fast kill is off the table, grind: chain Opt, Sleight of Hand, Flash of Insight, and Deep Analysis (including its flashback) over two or three turns to filter deep, fill the graveyard so Cabal Ritual hits Threshold for its larger mana output, and only then run the Ill-Gotten Gains loop from a position of total redundancy rather than raw speed.
Cunning Wish is your safety valve, not a turn-one play: hold it until you are actually ready to go off, then fetch a sideboard Brain Freeze, an extra ritual, or a counterspell to restart a stalled loop or protect the critical Ill-Gotten Gains cast. Spending it early for raw card advantage wastes the one piece that lets you rebuild after disruption.

How to beat it

The whole engine runs through the graveyard: Ill-Gotten Gains returns cards from graveyards to hands, so emptying that graveyard at instant speed in response to or right after an Ill-Gotten Gains collapses the recursion and strands the pilot with no resources to rebuild. Deploy graveyard hate proactively rather than waiting for the storm count to climb.
The fast mana is brittle and front-loaded: Dark Ritual, Cabal Ritual, and Lion's Eye Diamond all assume an unmolested setup, so hand disruption on turn one, before the combo turn, forces a rebuild that often buys the exact extra turn you need to close.
Storm needs one uninterrupted chain of cheap spells; a single piece of permission aimed at Ill-Gotten Gains or Brain Freeze ends the turn outright, and once Lion's Eye Diamond has emptied the pilot's hand the deck has almost nothing left to fight back through a counter.
The deck is racing toward a single payoff with almost no interaction, so a fast clock that demands an answer pressures the pilot to go off early, before the storm count is lethal and before the backup sideboard finisher is online.
Lion's Eye Diamond destroys the pilot's own hand to make its mana, so artifact removal pointed at it before activation denies the deck its most explosive burst and can leave it short of the storm count Brain Freeze needs to mill the full library.
