Mono Black Aggro
Suicide Black
Overview
"Mono Black Aggro pairs turn-one hand disruption with efficient black removal to clear a path for fast, resilient threats. Duress and Cabal Therapy strip the opponent's answers, then Dark Ritual accelerates out Hypnotic Specter and Nantuko Shade, the latter a mana sink that grows lethal as lands pile up. Smother, Diabolic Edict, Snuff Out, and Withered Wretch keep the board clear while Phyrexian Arena, Graveborn Muse, Cursed Scroll, and Masticore bury opponents in card advantage, letting the deck grind out games it cannot rush."
Game Plan
Mono Black Aggro operates on a simple but ruthless premise: strip the opponent's interaction before they can deploy it, then crash through with threats that demand an answer every single turn. The opening plan centers on Duress and Cabal Therapy as turn-one plays: not speed bumps but scalpels that excise the one card that would otherwise stop the deck cold. Dark Ritual then compresses the clock by a full turn, landing Hypnotic Specter on turn two or Nantuko Shade before the opponent has stabilized. Ravenous Rats extends the disruption suite onto a creature body, so every draw step spent trading against the board is also one fewer card in the opponent's hand. Smother and Snuff Out keep the path clear without costing tempo, while Withered Wretch answers graveyard-based recovery plans and doubles as a resilient two-drop that pressures life totals steadily.
When the aggressive draw is met with interaction and the board stalls, the deck's secondary engine takes over. Phyrexian Arena and Graveborn Muse refuel at the cost of life the deck is usually willing to pay, converting a stable board position into a card-count advantage that attrition-based opponents cannot match. Nantuko Shade transforms surplus mana into lethal increments once both players are low on resources, and a single uncontested attack step with open Swamps ends games that looked durable moments before. Cursed Scroll closes the topdeck war when both hands are empty, converting a depleted grip into a three-mana repeatable threat that opponents on one or two outs cannot outrun. Diabolic Edict handles whatever removal cannot touch, ensuring no single permanent ever anchors a defensive pivot.
