Nic Fit
BG Midrange Toolbox
Overview
"Nic Fit sacrifices Veteran Explorer to the flashback cost of Cabal Therapy, killing the Explorer to ramp both players with basic lands while stripping the opponent's hand, then converts that mana into threats too large to answer. Wall of Blossoms and Sylvan Library smooth the draw, and Pernicious Deed sweeps everything cheaper than the deck's own finishers. Ravenous Baloth, Deranged Hermit, and Krosan Tusker apply pressure, while Diabolic Intent fetches answers and Recurring Nightmare or Living Death rebuild from the graveyard."
Game Plan
Nic Fit is a BG midrange deck that manufactures a mana surplus on turn two and spends it on threats the opponent cannot match on curve. The engine opens with Cabal Therapy, named on information or fired blind, followed by Veteran Explorer, sacrificed immediately to flash back Cabal Therapy. That sequence strips two cards from the opponent's hand and fetches two basic lands for each player; the asymmetry is not in the land count but in what each deck does with the mana: Nic Fit's threats are sized around that threshold while the opponent's are not. Wall of Blossoms absorbs early attacks and replaces itself, buying time to land Ravenous Baloth or Krosan Tusker. Sylvan Library converts the life buffer Ravenous Baloth generates into extra draws, finding the next threat or Pernicious Deed, which waits in play until it can sweep exactly what the opponent has committed while leaving Nic Fit's larger permanents above the cost threshold.
When the game extends, Nic Fit shifts into a graveyard-fueled attrition engine. Diabolic Intent sacrifices spent creatures to tutor the precise finisher, while Krosan Tusker cycles into the bin and fetches a land, stocking the graveyard and fixing mana at once. Living Death converts that graveyard into a decisive board: all creatures from all graveyards return simultaneously, but Nic Fit's side (Ravenous Baloth, Krosan Tusker, Deranged Hermit, and Veteran Explorer) dwarfs whatever the opponent recovers, typically producing a lethal attack. Recurring Nightmare and Animate Dead offer an incremental version of that pressure, recurring bodies each turn until the life total is closed. Treetop Village and Mishra's Factory add hard-to-answer damage whenever the spell engine stalls.
