Parfait
Draw-Go Control
Overview
"Parfait is a white-based control deck built on the Land Tax and Scroll Rack engine, which fixes every draw to dig for answers while Sylvan Library and Ivory Tower bury opponents in extra cards and life. Enlightened Tutor assembles a toolbox of Zuran Orb, Seal of Cleansing, and Aura of Silence, with Mox Diamond accelerating the setup. Swords to Plowshares and Armageddon clear the board and lock opponents off their mana, while Gaea's Blessing shuffles the graveyard back to prevent decking. Oath of Druids cheats Ancestor's Chosen into play as a lifegain finisher. Note: Land Tax was banned in standard Premodern on 2023-07-15, so this engine is legal only in Premodern Unchained."
Game Plan
Parfait plays a game of deliberate asymmetry: while the opponent develops threats and spends resources, the deck accumulates life and card advantage until it controls every axis simultaneously. The opening priority is landing an enchantment engine (Land Tax, Sylvan Library, or Aura of Silence), ideally accelerated by Mox Diamond, so the deck operates ahead of curve from the first relevant turn. Enlightened Tutor threads the toolbox together on demand, fetching Zuran Orb to convert surplus lands into life, Scroll Rack to filter whatever Land Tax pulls, or Seal of Cleansing to answer the immediate board threat. Ivory Tower rewards the large hand the engine naturally produces, snowballing the life cushion while Swords to Plowshares handles anything that gets through. The deck's passivity is tactical: every answer bought with life or a card is a resource the opponent cannot recover, and Gaea's Blessing cycles those answers back as the game extends.
Once the resource gap is wide enough, Parfait shifts from endurance to execution. Armageddon resolves while Mox Diamond and enchantments keep the pilot functional, collapsing the opponent's mana base and leaving them unable to rebuild. Oath of Druids provides a safety valve against creature-heavy strategies: if the opponent ever holds more creatures, it cheats Ancestor's Chosen into play and restores a life total that renders the remaining race pointless. The deck closes from either angle: Decree of Justice cycled at instant speed once answers are exhausted and the board is clear, or a hard-cast Ancestor's Chosen that ends the life race before it can restart.
