Pattern Combo

Game Plan

Pattern Combo converts expendable bodies into a deterministic kill through two complementary tutor engines. After establishing mana with Birds of Paradise or Wall of Roots, the deck deploys a sacrifice outlet (Carrion Feeder most often, Goblin Bombardment as the alternate) before landing the enchantment layer. Pattern of Rebirth enchants any creature and, when that creature dies into the outlet, fetches any creature directly onto the battlefield; Academy Rector's death trigger instead fetches any enchantment, most often landing Pattern of Rebirth on a second creature to restart the chain. Cabal Therapy strips countermagic or removal on the way in and flashes back off spent creatures for a second discard, so disruption and combo setup happen on the same action. Survival of the Fittest, fueled by Squee, Goblin Nabob returning free every upkeep, searches any creature at will and fills the graveyard precisely.

The primary win condition is Akroma, Angel of Wrath fetched off a Pattern of Rebirth trigger, attacking through the format's most common removal colors. When Akroma is live and the sacrifice engine remains online, Goblin Bombardment converts each subsequent creature death into direct damage to close stalled games. Karmic Guide reanimates a spent Rector or any sacrificed piece; Iridescent Drake returns a Pattern of Rebirth from the graveyard to put the chain back online. Mesmeric Fiend, sacrificed in response to its own enters-the-battlefield trigger, permanently exiles the one card that threatens the combo. Volrath's Shapeshifter copies whatever sits on top of the graveyard, providing a threat that appears without any sacrifice trigger at all.
