Graveyard dependency — Grim Lavamancer's burn engine and the flashback on Call of the Herd both need a stocked graveyard, so graveyard hate switches off two of the deck's most powerful engines at once.
No resilience to sweepers — the plan rests on a board of small one- and two-power creatures like Jackal Pup, Wild Mongrel, and Quirion Dryad that all die to a single mass-removal effect, and the deck has no fast rebuild beyond redrawing into more bodies with Sylvan Library.
Fixed burn ceiling — the deck runs no card selection beyond Sylvan Library and Cursed Scroll, so once Lightning Bolt, Incinerate, and Lava Dart are spent it has no way to close out a stabilized opponent whose life total has climbed out of burn range.
Enchantment fragility — Rancor and Sylvan Library carry the deck's sustained pressure and card advantage, and both fall to enchantment removal, stripping its two most important non-creature tools.

How to win with it

Mulligan any hand without a colored source plus a one-drop you can deploy on turn one; a keeper has Jackal Pup, Mogg Fanatic, or Seal of Fire to start the clock, a source to cast it, and either a follow-up beater or a burn spell, while three-plus lands with no action is almost always a ship.
The dream draw is a turn-one Jackal Pup, turn-two Wild Mongrel or River Boa, turn-three Call of the Herd, then Lightning Bolt and Incinerate pointed at the opponent's face; this clock forces unfavorable blocks or a quick death before they stabilize.
On the grind, prioritize resolving Sylvan Library early so you are drawing extra cards by turn two or three, and when racing keep enough untapped mana to regenerate River Boa through combat rather than tapping out for a marginal burn spell.
Hold Grim Lavamancer until at least two cards sit in your graveyard, since its activation exiles two cards as a cost; once online, snipe enemy blockers or push the last points every turn and protect it as a recurring damage engine rather than firing it on an empty bin.
Sylvan Library is your long-game engine: pay the four life per extra card aggressively while you are ahead on board, but when your own Library payments drag your life total low, switch to taking the single free card and let Cursed Scroll grind out the remaining damage.
Treat Fireblast as a reach finisher, not mid-game removal: sacrifice your red sources to deal its four damage only when it kills the opponent that turn, ideally chaining it with a Lightning Bolt or Incinerate in hand to close from a high life total in one swing.

How to beat it

Jackal Pup, Wild Mongrel, and Quirion Dryad all fold to the same cheap removal, so sequence your answers to kill each threat the turn it lands rather than letting them stack. This deck wins by accumulating small damage increments, not one explosive play, so denying the board its build-up resets its clock.
Race the refuel engine: Sylvan Library digs the deck back to gas through attrition and Call of the Herd buys back a second body from the graveyard, so a board sweeper that catches the elephant token and the flashback threat together strips both halves of that value at once.
Grim Lavamancer turns spent creatures in the graveyard into a repeatable burn engine and is the deck's source of late-game inevitability; exile-based removal or graveyard hate empties its fuel and leaves it a vanilla one-power body.
This deck's burn must serve double duty as both creature removal and reach to the face, so don't hand it free attacks: pressure that forces it to point Lightning Bolt, Incinerate, Seal of Fire, and Mogg Fanatic at your board spends the same cards it needs to close, collapsing its clock faster than racing burn alone.
Go wide rather than tall: that removal suite kills individual large threats efficiently, but multiple small bodies force the deck to spend several burn spells on creatures instead of your life total, draining the reach it relies on to finish.
