Three Deuce
Aggro-Midrange
Overview
"Three Deuce is a Red-Green aggro-midrange deck that splashes white, flooding the board with cheap, efficient threats like Savannah Lions, River Boa, and Grim Lavamancer before closing out games with relentless pressure. Rancor and Call of the Herd grind out long games while Lightning Bolt, Mogg Fanatic, and Swords to Plowshares clear blockers and Wax // Wane pumps an attacker or blows up a problem enchantment. Sylvan Library, Cursed Scroll, and Exalted Angel keep the damage flowing once the early creatures stall."
Game Plan
Three Deuce opens on a stream of one-mana threats and clears the path for them simultaneously. Savannah Lions and Mogg Fanatic arrive on turn one while Lightning Bolt and Swords to Plowshares neutralize anything that would stop them. The removal suite is so dense that the deck often acts as much like a control deck in the first two turns as an aggro deck. River Boa provides the midgame backbone: islandwalk makes it effectively unblockable against blue opponents and regeneration demands two removal spells to answer cleanly. Rancor transforms any of these modest bodies into a genuine clock, returning to hand after a trade so it never truly disappears. Grim Lavamancer converts the graveyard (spells, fetchlands from Windswept Heath and Wooded Foothills) into a repeating source of pinpoint damage that picks off x/1 blockers and chips in the final points of lethal.
Once the board stabilizes, Sylvan Library keeps the hand full by letting the deck pay 4 life per extra card drawn, a price the aggressive strategy is often happy to pay in exchange for fresh threats. Cursed Scroll punishes opponents who exhaust their hands matching the deck's efficiency one-for-one, converting an empty grip into a repeatable damage source. Call of the Herd provides resilient pressure that survives sweepers: two 3/3 tokens across two installments out-grind most midrange answers. Exalted Angel closes out games in a different register entirely, entering as an anonymous 2/2 morph before unmasking into a lifelinked 4/5 that swings the race decisively. Wax // Wane and Thornscape Battlemage handle enchantments and artifacts that would otherwise disrupt the plan.
