Game Plan

UB Control opens by dismantling the opponent's hand and board simultaneously. A turn-one Duress strips the spell most likely to interfere, a sweeper against aggro or a threat against mirrors, while Smother and Innocent Blood handle early creatures before they connect. The deck then uses Impulse and Mana Leak to sculpt a reactive posture: sandbag lands, deploy Standstill, and dare the opponent to spend a card. Anyone who breaks Standstill hands the control player three fresh draws; anyone who refuses cedes tempo while Faerie Conclave chips away as a free attacker. Fact or Fiction refuels whenever a window opens, often mid-combat or on the opponent's end step, generating enough raw card advantage to sustain the counter-wall of Mana Leak and Counterspell deep into the game.

When the grip is full and the opponent's threats are exhausted, the deck closes efficiently. Morphling arrives already immune to opposing targeted removal, then pumps to race and shrinks to survive combat, with the untap ability letting it slip past blockers or hold back an attack without tapping down, while Psychatog can convert an entire graveyard and hand into a lethal swing in a single turn. Against decks that pressure the hand or board too hard for Standstill to shine, Zombie Infestation converts redundant lands and late-game Impulses into a token assault, grinding out the final points when both players have run low. The deck rarely needs more than one threat to resolve; the entire control shell exists to ensure that threat meets no answer.
