Pre-DH (Pre-Commander)
"Recreate the Elder Dragon Highlander experience as it existed before official Commander recognition in 2011."
The Format
Pre-DH emerged as a response to the rapid evolution of Commander following official recognition by Wizards of the Coast in 2011. By cutting off the card pool at New Phyrexia, it preserves the character of the format before power creep from dedicated Commander-specific designs began reshaping the metagame. It focuses on nostalgia and the 'middle age' of multiplayer Magic.

Metagame Snapshot
Expect a metagame where original Commander staples from the pre-2011 era shine. Without the influence of modern Commander products (like Chaos Warp or Flusterstorm), the format rewards strategies and creatures that were valued in their era, such as Simic Sky Swallower and Tarmogoyf, alongside classic enchantments like Survival of the Fittest.
