VDH (Vintage Dragon Highlander)
"The ultimate 'time capsule' variant of Commander, limited strictly to the Premodern card pool (1995–2003). VDH bridges the gap between the high-powered 'Old School' era and the modern singleton experience."
The Format
Vintage Dragon Highlander (VDH) traces its roots to the early days of Elder Dragon Highlander (EDH) in the mid-1990s and early 2000s. Originally popularized by Alaskan player Adam Staley and later refined by Sheldon Menery, the format eventually spawned this specific Premodern-focused variant. VDH excludes the power-crept cards of modern Commander products, forcing players to revisit forgotten gems like Recurring Nightmare and Survival of the Fittest in a 100-card singleton environment. It remains highly active in North American hubs like the Pacific Northwest and New England.
